Floyd Mayweather aims a left at Ricky Hatton during the American's WBC
Jeff Mayweather, the quietest member of the notorious American boxing dynasty, claims he can deliver a fight between his nephew, Floyd Jr, and
Manny Pacquiao in South Africa in July. "I'm negotiating with both sides and it's just a matter now of sending a letter of intent to Manny and one to Floyd through me and see where it can go," the fighter's uncle told fighthype.com. Mayweather, briefly a world super-featherweight champion in the early 90s, has hitherto been regarded as peripheral to Floyd Jr's career. "I know that [Floyd] is talking to Nelson Mandela's daughter because they are trying to put together something for his 93rd birthday [18 July]," he said. "In the midst of that, they're also trying to make the fight between Floyd and Manny." Given Pacquiao is scheduled to fight Shane Mosley in Las Vegas for the WBO welterweight title on 7 May, there would be little time available to promote what would almost certainly be the biggest grossing fight in boxing history. Floyd Jr, mired in legal difficulties arising from domestic disputes in Las Vegas that carry serious jail time, has not responded to Pacquiao's repeated offers to submit himself to Olympic-standard drugs tests.
