The Nekor Mediterranean Festival of Theatre in Al Hoceima city
The fourth edition of The Nekor Mediterranean Festival of Theatre, organised by the Thifswin Association for Tamazigh theatre, is to be held on May 9-13 in Al Hoceima city, the “blue gem of
north Morocco.
The theme of this year's festival is "governance and management of cultural diversity in the Mediterranean”.
The association said the festival would be organised with the help of the ministries of culture, youth and sports, the Mohammed V National Theatre, and the Royal Institute of Tamazigh culture in Rabat.
The schedule includes an international seminar on "governance and management of cultural diversity the Mediterranean".
Training workshops for actors and directors will also be held along with street theatre in different parts of the region. An open session with Moroccan artists Hassan el-Fad and Amal Ayouch, in addition to book-signings by two Tamazigh writers, playwright Saad Abrnos and novelist Fouad Ozrual, will also be held.
"The festival administration aims to create an atmosphere in which creative dramatists express their concerns about art and share their experiences, and confirm their roots in diverse Mediterranean civilisation," said a statement by the Thifswin Association.
Many national groups will participate in the session, including el-Madina el-Saghira, a small-town group performing a play called “Clakaj". International theatre groups from Tunisia, Italy, Algeria, France, and Spain will also participate and the Emirate of Sharjah is a guest of honour.
The session, which coincides with Morocco's celebration of the National Day of Theatre, will honour late artist Aziz Alaoui and veteran Tunisian actor Fathi Hadawi along with artist Aazh Aldaihi.
