A documentary on Dubai's civil aviation has won a gold medal and a finalist certificate in two categories in a global competition that attracted entries from over 50 countries.
The New York Festival's World's Best Television and Films, a highly regarded and respected authority in the industry, recently announced this year's winners. The documentary on Dubai's civil aviation, Flying a Dream, bagged the Gold World Medal in the category of Society and Social Issues.
Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, President of the Dubai Civil Aviation Authority (DCAA), Chairman of Dubai Airports and Chairman and Chief Executive of Emirates Airline and Group, congratulated the staff and management of the DCAA for the achievement. He said the international recognition of the documentary film reflects the hard work and dedication of each and every professional in making the aviation industry in Dubai "a grand success story”.
The documentary highlights the role and contribution of key players of the aviation industry over the past 75 years.
Commissioned and supported by the DCAA, the documentary recounts and celebrates 75 years of Open Skies, a milestone the DCAA reached in 2012. The film documents the vision and the contribution of the leaders of the Emirate of Dubai that led to the exceptional growth of the aviation industry and its monumental impact on the country's economy.
Mohammed Ahli, DCAA Director-General, said: "We decided to go for an informative short film as part of the celebrations for our 75th year in aviation and to pay tribute to all those who have contributed to this achievement. It is a beautiful and an outstanding film that tells our unique story.”
Reim El Houni, founder of Ti22 Films which produced the documentary, said: "We thank the DCAA for giving us the opportunity to make the documentary highlighting the rich history and transformation of civil aviation in the Emirate of Dubai. We are thrilled with the global recognition that the documentary brought to all of us in Dubai.”
The award ceremony took place last month in Las Vegas. Flying a Dream also received two finalist certificates for Business Theatre and Direction.
