Yasser Arafat
A documentary titled “The Price of Kings: Yasser Arafat” is to be screened for the first time in the Middle East on December 8 at the Dubai International Film Festival. It is considered the first of a series
of documentaries called “The Price of Kings”, which includes 12 films on 12 presidents, the most controversial in modern history. The film includes interviews with late President Yasser Arafat and a number of his close associates, sheding light on difficult decisions he took at critical times, and how he compromised for principles he believed in.
Suha Arafat, the late President’s widow, is expected to attend the screening, in addition to the film director Richard Symons and its producer Joanna Natasegara.
The production company announced that the time of the screening was intentional, as the series focused on the presidents' leadership, given the fall of a number of infamous Arab leaders in the Arab Spring revolutions, as well as the fall of a number of European leaders due to debts.
The series focuses on the most influential and controversial leaders in the world. The team selected Yasser Arafat to star the first film, Israeli President Shimon Peres to be in the second, and Costa Rican President Oscar Arias for the third, while the characters of the nine remaining films will be announced in 2013.
Director Richard Symons said that he chose Yasser Arafat for the first film in the series owing to his substantial influence in politics and peace, not just in Palestine but in the Middle East as a whole, in addition to his struggle to restore the land of his people, making him one of the most controversial leaders in modern times.
