Dubai Customs has announced that the Carpet and Art Oasis 2015 will open its doors to the public on Thursday, 1st January 2014. Themed "20 Years of Spinning Art", the 20th edition of the Oasis will be one of the main attractions of Dubai Shopping Festival 2015, and is well set to feature a multitude of rare and exquisite carpets brought forth from the world's most famous carpet manufacturing countries.
The official inauguration of the Carpet and Art Oasis 2015 will take place on Tuesday, January 6, 2015 in the presence of senior officials from Dubai Customs and Dubai Festivals and Retail Establishment (DFRE), an agency of the Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing (DTCM) and the organisers of DSF.
Organised by Dubai Customs every year since the inception of Dubai Shopping Festival in 1996, the Carpet & Art Oasis exhibition will be held at Dubai Festival City, and run until 1st February 2015. With every edition, the Carpet and Art Oasis increasingly attracts larger crowds, as rug lovers and visitors gather to acquire some of the scarcest and most gorgeous handcrafted carpets. Held over an area of 6200 square meters, the exhibition will witness a 20% rise in participation compared to last year.
Abdul Rahman Issa, Chairman of the Carpet Oasis' Organising Committee, noted that a total of 300 exquisite carpets have been weaved to be displayed exclusively and for the first time at the Carpet & Art Oasis 2015.
Since its inauguration 19 years ago, the number of visitors flocking to the Carpet Oasis has reached over one million, with total sales of more than Dh 1.7 billion. More than two million carpets have been exhibited thus far, handcrafted in renowned rug making regions in Iran like Qom, Isfahan, Kashan, Tabriz and Naeen, alongside the exotic cashmere carpets and other art items on display by exhibitors from Turkey, India, China, Pakistan, Turkmenistan and Azerbaijan.
