Reem bint Ibrahim Al Hashimy, Minister of State, Board Representative of the Dubai Expo 2020 Higher Committee and Director General, Bureau Dubai Expo 2020, has officially launched a nationwide design contest for the new Expo 2020 Dubai logo.
Any UAE local or resident with a desire to get creative is encouraged to be part of a defining moment in Dubai s World Expo story by contributing a design.
The Expo 2020 Dubai Logo Design Competition will give one individual the chance for their creative flair to be seen by millions when the UAE plays host to the six-month mega event opening October 2020 in Dubai.
The contest submission period runs until 30th April via www.expo2020dubai.ae/logocompetition. The winning design, to be announced on October 20th 2015 the start of the five year countdown to the opening of Expo 2020 Dubai - will become the iconic event s official emblem.
Al Hashimy said that Expo 2020 Dubai will have something for everyone in both the lead-up to and during the event itself.
Inviting the people of the UAE to be a part of creating the official logo for Expo 2020 Dubai is one of many opportunities for individuals to play a collaborative role in the event s success.
"Expo 2020 Dubai is for the people. With this in mind, we have a strong vision for the official logo to embody both the creativity and passion of the nation for this milestone event in our collective journey," said Al Hashimy. "Our hope is that everyone from our youngest students to our seasoned designers will be inspired, and strengthen their relationship with Expo 2020 Dubai by submitting a design that could be selected as the Expo 2020 Dubai official emblem."
Entrants are invited to create a design that reflects the main theme of the event: Connecting Minds, Creating the Future. Through this theme, Expo 2020 Dubai will serve as a catalyst, connecting minds from around the world and inspiring participants to mobilise around shared challenges.
All entries will be reviewed by a panel of design experts, with the Expo 2020 Dubai Higher Committee creating a short-list of finalists.
The contest is open to all current UAE residents or UAE passport holders. As well as the prestige of seeing their design used as the Official Expo 2020 Dubai logo, the winner of the chosen design will win Dh100,000 plus a fantastic trip for four to three previous World Expo cities, and receive a season pass for two for Expo 2020 Dubai, including an invitation to the official opening ceremony.
The winning design will become the official emblem for Expo 2020 Dubai, replacing the image that has represented the event since the UAE won the right to host the World Expo in 2020. It is common for major events to replace the official logo used during a bid campaign with one that has a new look and feel and embodies the energy and enthusiasm of a nation preparing for a major global event.
The logo design competition is another facet of Expo 2020 Dubai s ongoing For Everyone campaign - a UAE-wide multi-experience community engagement initiative, which started on 1st March with the launch of 21 interactive sculptures designed by the world's artists representing the event s three subthemes: Opportunity, Mobility and Sustainability.
The For Everyone campaign is designed to build awareness about Expo 2020 Dubai and the rich history of World Expos through a series of interactive initiatives, as well as provide a platform for people to collaboratively shape how Expo 2020 Dubai is for them, through dialogue and debate.
