Expo 2020 Dubai held a workshop for close to 200 designers and university students from across the UAE at the future Expo 2020 site in Jebel Ali, ahead of the once-in-a-lifetime Expo 2020 Logo Design Competition closing in a week.
Bringing together some of the country's creative minds from leading design agencies and studios as well as from schools, universities and the general public, the dedicated session gave the assembled crowd a detailed update on the Expo 2020 story as well as provided tips, guidance and insights from industry leaders in brand development.
The Expo 2020 Dubai Logo Design Competition, running until 30th April via www.expo2020dubai.ae/logocompetition, will give one individual the chance for their creative flair to be seen by millions when the UAE plays host to the six-month mega event opening October 2020 in Dubai.
The winning design, to be announced on October 20th 2015 – the start of the five year countdown to the opening of Expo 2020 Dubai - will become the iconic event's official emblem.
Dane Francis from South Africa said the workshop helped give him a better understanding of what goes into designing a logo for a global mega event.
And, Shirin Sabri from Jordan, who has never done any professional design work, said she felt that she now had the knowledge to start designing and would submit her logo shortly, joining the thousands across the UAE who have already taken part.
Logo competition entrants are invited to create a design that reflects the main theme of the event: Connecting Minds, Creating the Future. Entries for any age group are allowed; minors need consent from their parents. The competition is open to anyone holding a valid Emirates ID.
As well as the prestige of seeing their design used as the Official Expo 2020 Dubai logo, the winner of the chosen design will win Dh 100,000 plus a fantastic trip for four to three previous World Expo cities, and receive a season pass for two for Expo 2020 Dubai, including an invitation to the official opening ceremony.
The Expo 2020 Dubai Logo Design Competition is one part of the multi-faceted ‘For Everyone' campaign - a UAE-wide multi-experience community engagement initiative which is currently running across the country. People can get up close to Expo 2020 and learn more about the history of World Expos and the iconic event taking place in Dubai through two interactive experiential zones which are travelling around the emirates.
