The French ambassador in Beirut, Denis Pieton
The High Institute of Affairs at Klemenso - Beirut, held a certificate-awardins ceremony in the third round of "The French Language and Culture Games" competition for the Lebanese army. The
event is organised by "The French Technical Military Coordination in Lebanon".
The French ambassador in Beirut, Denis Pieton, the director of defence and security coordination in the French foreign ministry, General Bruno Clement, and the representative of the Lebanese army leader, General Nicolas Mozher were also present.
The French Military Attache in Lebanon, Colonel Philippe Patril, said 15,000 Lebanese officers joined the competition in 2012, compared to 5000 officers in 2010, which indicated the growing interest in the French language. Patril also mentioned cultural projects in the Lebanese military which was funded by France, like three cultural training centres in Erman and three education halls in the Military Faculty.
On the other hand, General Mozher emphasised that "both French and Lebanese people share mutual cultural values like openness, freedom and democracy".
Mozher praised the French role in supporting Lebanon in diplomatic events and in military training.
Pieton also said that "the annual French fund for the technical military coordination in Lebanon was now 2 million euros", stressing his country's commitment to "continue its cultural coordination with the Lebanese army, and to spread the French language among the as many Lebanese officers as possible".
