Maraya Art Centre and Barjeel Art Foundation, will usher in two concurrent captivating exhibitions on the evening of March 1st this year. The simultaneous showings - respectively ‘Accented' and the 2nd exhibition of ‘Aide-memoire' - will be on display in Maraya's Gallery and the Barjeel Art Foundation, in addition to Maraya Art Park at Al Majaz Waterfront.
‘Accented', a bespoke exhibition curated by Sharjah-born critic and curator Murtaza Vali, investigates the idea of the human ‘accent' acting as a lasting sign of cultural contrast and identity in the era of globalisation. An analysis of the effects of globalisation, focussed on the current increasing worldwide growth in the areas of media, finance and technology, confirms the outcome of cultural conformity and the loss of individuality. However, as the artworks of ‘Accented' will seek 23th February, 2015 (WAM)to construe, within all cultures there remains an essence; an elemental component which strives to persist, resist and transcend the acts of intercultural translation.
The exhibition titled ‘Aide-memoire', which translates from French as "an aid for memory", will be presented in its second edition by the Barjeel Art Foundation in honour of their fifth running year. Highlighting the multitude of stories that encompass an exhibition, the show centres on the ways in which people see, remember and record personal encounters.
Sultan Sooud Al Qasimi, said, "We are celebrating our fifth year anniversary this year, and what better way to do it than have our visitors contribute to the publication released in parallel with our exhibition."
