The public is being urged to nominate people they admire for the prestigious Abu Dhabi Awards after a fantastic two-week response to the campaign.
The number of nominations so far has passed the 6,000 mark which is more than double the average amount in previous years. And a hugely encouraging factor has been the understanding that anyone can make a nomination and anyone can be nominated — and multiple nominations can be made.
Online at www.abudhabiawards.ae is the easiest way to nominate, but you can also nominate at booths in shopping malls across Abu Dhabi, Al Ain and the Western Region, or look out for one of the 90 nomination drop-boxes across the Emirate.
"The first two weeks of the Abu Dhabi Awards campaign have been really positive,” said Sara Al Mansoor, from the Abu Dhabi Awards organising committee.
"People are coming forward to share with us stories of individuals who they feel deserve an Abu Dhabi Award.”
"The awards are designed to highlight those who have made a positive contribution to Abu Dhabi society.” "Anyone can nominate or be nominated, and the recipients are selected solely on the merit of their actions, not on the number of nominations they received. It only takes one nomination for someone to be considered for an award.”
The nomination period for the Abu Dhabi Awards 2015 runs until June 27.
The awards recognise those members of the community who have made a difference to the lives of people in Abu Dhabi through their good deeds. Anyone considered to have made a positive contribution to the emirate of Abu Dhabi can be nominated for an award regardless of their age, gender or nationality. Even someone who lives overseas is eligible, as long as they have added to the goodness of the community in Abu Dhabi.
The reach of the awards is far and wide, it ranges from fields of health, education, environment and charity, or simply individuals who have inspired others.
After nominations close, all entries will be evaluated by the Abu Dhabi Awards Committee, comprising leading dignitaries, officials and senior industry figures, who will produce a shortlist of the most qualified candidates.
