Sharjah museums
The Sharjah Museums Department has launched a series of workshops on excavation, astronomy and ceramics to enhance people's appreciation of museums, especially schoolchildren and their families.
A workshop on May 3 taught
children aged between three and seven years about archaeology and archaeologists who uncover antiquities from excavation sites. They were also introduced to the UAE map featuring Sharjah's geographical coordinates as well as to models of archaeological artefacts.
The workshop was enlivened by a treasure hunt which ended with the children and their accompanying family members decorating the pottery items they had unearthed. The activity was geared to convey to young minds the concepts of excavation and restoration.
On May 7 and 8 a special programme was held on astronomy at the Sharjah Museum of Islamic Civilisation, highlighting the innovative science behind the astrolabe. Participants had the unique opportunity to use the astrolabe to monitor stars and their shapes and identify prominent constellations.
On May 10, the Sharjah Archaeology Museum hosted multiple programmes. The workshop titled "My story on my jar” highlighted pottery and the development of ceramics through the ages.
On May 31, the Sharjah Archaeology Museum will host a workshop, "My old house”, for families and children with special needs.
