Children were amazed and astounded as Indian entertainer Shibu Prabhi orchestrated a huge balloon theatrical show at the Sharjah Book Fair. As the hyper, trippy song “Crazy Frog” played in the background, he warmed up by twisting and transforming long, vibrant balloons into traditional artistic shapes such as exotic swords and Jeff Koon-like balloon dogs.
Just when everyone thought he was an ordinary, run-of-the-mill entertainer, he blew them away with his piece de resistance - a massive 6 ft. balloon made of tough latex rubber, making this the largest in the world. Prabhu proceeded to actually get inside the balloon so the children could see his silhouette and then he mimed/danced to the music, in high spirits whilst the giant bubble of plastic enveloped his entire body. It was only a ten minute show but one that created an exciting buzz and lent a spontaneous energy that rippled throughout the fair.
His amazing balloon show repeats on Sunday evening at 7:00pm and Monday morning at 11:00 am.
Another noteworthy talent to watch out for at the fair is artist Shamsudheen Kp. He is the creative genius responsible for the “Amazing caricature show” at Sharjah International Book fair.
Using elegant and minimalistic strokes, he renders his subjects in soft, dark 6B pencil. Amazingly, the illustrations only take a few minutes but the likenesses of the portraits are stunningly accurate and have a lovely, fluid, stylized Disney-like appearance to them.
His artwork is so popular that he has an hour long session twice a day, every day of the fair – once in the morning at 10:30 – 11:30 am and another session at 6:00pm – 7.00pm.
