Sudanese Minister of Defense Abdel Rahim Mohamed Hussein A group of heads and ministers will be heading to Darfur on Wednesday to follow up on the various developments in the region. Minister Lt. Abdel Rahim Mohamed Hussein, Interior Minister Ibrahim Mahmoud Hamid, Finance Minister Ali Mahmoud, Agriculture Minister Abdul Halim Mutafi and the Director of Security and Intelligence System Mohamed Atta will discuss progressions made as well as look into cultivation and yielding operations in more depth.
Darfur regional authority, headed by Tijani Cisse, stated: "This visit is highly important in supporting efforts to achieve peace and stability, especially after states in the north south and west witnessed increasing rates of rainfall last year.”
A source in the region said that: "Securing a cultivation operation this season will increase agriculture in order to achieve food self-sufficiency this year in Darfur.”
The Secretary Governor of west Darfur, Abulgasim al-Amin Baraka, confirmed that the security condition in the state is calm. In a meeting with the parliament delegation, he added: “The new cultivating season is expected to be a success this year and will allow the state to achieve food security as well as head into exporting goods into its neighbouring countries.” He also called for the federal government to pay attention to scientific research that will help develop agriculture and secure societies to preserve the rights of farmers.
A source in north Darfur said that militant groups have encouraged those who were displaced during the distraught weather conditions to become involved in cultivating operations to help secure them from other militant movements in the region.
