Libya, Tripoli
Libya’s National Transitional Council (NTC) is to inspect all international contracts concluded under Muammar Gaddafi, the TNC’s transport and communications minister told RIA Novosti on Tuesday
.
“The issue of a return to work for Russian companies in Libya is still being considered…All former contracts are currently being checked for transparency,” minister Anwar Faituri said.
A number of Russian companies did business in Libya before the stat of NATO operations. Among them were Russian Railways, which was to build a 550-km railway, and Gazprom Neft. Russia also supplied weapons to Libya.
Faituri also noted that Russia’s decision not to recognize the NTC could have a negative effect on its business opportunities in post-Gaddafi Libya.
“The political aspect will naturally be taken into consideration when making a decision, but we will respect all deals concluded legally. No mater who they were with,” he said.
