According to official statistics released by World Health Organization (WHO) ,Tunisia ranked first in alcohol consumption with annual rate of 520% . The Tunisian citizen drinks twice as much as the German one, and despite what is known ,Russians and Germans come behind Muslims like Africans and Iranians in alcohol consumption. Leading the list is the Chadian citizen with 34 liters in year .
The African countries lead the list with 33.9 liters in Chad ,30.9 in Gambia, 29.3 in Mali and 27.7 in Namibia. The Indian citizen recorded a rate of 28.7 liters ,the Iranian with 24.8 and the Russian with 22.3 liters.
Tunisia and UAE share the first place for alcohol consumption in the Arab World ,with a rate of 32.8 in the UAE ,but WHO report stated that most of the population are foreign immigrants and most of them are not Muslims, while in Tunisia the individual consumption rate is 26.2 liters ,making him beats all other nationalities including the European ones .On every day basis , Tunisians consume almost half a million of beer bottles and cans and 200 million bottles in year which rank them fifth in compared to the population ,with more than 200 million consumers according to the Tunisian National Chamber of Alcoholics Producers and Distributors. The beer bottle is worth 4 dollars ,Wine is 38 and Whiskey is 120-250 dollars for each bottle.
According to a recent study Tunisian males consume beer more than females ,with a rate of 3 liters in a year and 68% prefer beer ,28% for wine and only 4% prefer whisky .
Sociologist , Fathaia Al Saidi said that individuals deal with stress with different ways ,and that is probably the reason behind this high rate ,adding that a number of young people turn to alcohol to find joy ,the same way we find others avoid the society or turn to violent .
