Arab singers want to reach wider audiences
During the past year in the world of Arab entertainment, among singers particularly, the trend of collaborating with international musicians has quickly spread.
It appears these Arab singers are not content with just Middle Eastern fame and consider it the road to the
globalisation of their brand. Whether for good or bad, the recent phenomenon has oddly not been limited to only young singers but the older generation appears to be jumping on the bandwagon too.
Tamer Hosny
Coming out on top of the Arab singers obsessed with worldwide recognition is the Egyptian singer Tamer Hosni. In just one year, Hosni has collaborated with American artist on three separate songs and is in the process of recording a fourth. The singer has so far duetted with Shaggy, gangster rapper Snoop Dogg (now Snoop Lion), Akon and intends to team up with Colombian/ Lebanese performer Shakira.
Shirine Abdel Wahab
Shirin ehas followed suit, collaborating with US Hip Hop artist Nelly. The pair have just finished a re-recording of Nelly’s popular hit Just a Dream, which has been reworked to include an Arabic verse (written by poet Amir To’eima) sung by the Egyptian starlet.
Nancy Ajram
One of the older veterans, Lebanese singer Nancy Ajram has recorded a duet with the famous Spanish singer Jose Galvez. They also produced a song together, called Hali Hal, as part of a music program that blended Eastern and Western music.
Samo Zaen
Syrian singer Samo Zaen notably travelled to London, England to meet young British singer Alexandra Burke, winner of the country’s X Factor version. The trip came as a prelude to recording a duet with Burke. The track will be produced by Zaen.
The musician has also previously successfully collaborated song with Bulgarian singer Talania Boven, which encouraged Zaento repeat the experience with Alexandra Burke
