Fayrouz Karawya
Cairo – Khaled Ali
The Pyramedia company for artistic production and distribution, owned by Richard El Haj, has announced that the first album of the artist Fayrouz Karawya “Barra Menny” (Outside Me) immediately topped
sales in Virgin Megastores and Pyramedia Megastore in the first week of its release.
The album is the result of four years of preparation. It contains 13 songs of different genres of music made by a number of poets and composers.
Fayrouz Karawya said: "This album is a dream that has eventually been realised...it took me more than four years of preparation, where I experienced the worse sides of the production process and through which I understood the extent of the difficulties that would make any artist think twice before self-producing their albums."
Karawya produced the entire album by herself and handed distribution Pyramedia.
The Egyptian star had postponed the release of the album many times since the revolution as she has participated in it as much as she could. Two songs in the album were dedicated to it: “Akher Marra” (The Last Time) and “Eh Elly Fadel?” (What’s Left?).
She said she was very happy to work with the lyricists who collaborated on the album, saying "they had unique talents, as they helped me create a special feature for the album and add a lot to the songs subjects that ended up simple and profound at the same time”.
Richard El Haj said he was happy to work with Karawya as she was intellectual and her thoughts were a real reflection of the revolution. He said: “In fact I liked the idea of supporting new talent, because production houses in Egypt have become very few in number, and there are not many that work on supporting new talents.”
Karawya started her singing career in 2006 by perfroming many concerts in Egypt, Jordan and France. She was also short-listed for the Monte Carlo award in 2007. Furthermore, she sang the soundtrack of the movie “Asrar al-Banat” (Girls’ Secrets) in 2001. Karawya also has experience in theatre and cinema, for example, writing the script for the short film “Sabah el-Fol” (Good Morning) which starred actor Hend Sabri in 2005.
