Tunisian actress Sanaa Youssef
The Tunisian actress Sanaa Youssef is delighted with the success of her roles in the Ramadan TV series Nuqtat Duuf (Weakspot) and Fad Ishtibak (Disengagement), she told Arab Today.
It is the second time the Tunisian star has tried her hand at Egyptian drama serials following the success of her role alongside Adel Imam in Firqat Naji Attallah (The Naji Attallah team) last year.
In an exclusive interview, Sanaa said she’s a fan most Ramadan series, but especially Al-Arraf.
However, she said she wasn’t at all upset about not being cast alongside Adel Imam in Al-Arraf this season, saying it was up to the director to select actors according to the storyline and adding that she wished the show success.
Turning to the two parts she has snapped up this Ramadan, Sanaa said the fact the two characters were totally different was “what attracted me to the roles”.
Despite having studied music and sung on stage in the past, the actress revealed she was reluctant to sing for her part in Nuqtat Duuf – but that she was persuaded by the encouragement of director Ahmed Shafik.
Discussing her entry into cinema, Sanaa said she wanted to work with all Egyptian stars in roles that showcased her talent, adding that she was prepared to take part in risqué scenes if necessary to the plot, but would not be getting undressed for the cameras.
She also refused to comment on Tunisian actresses whose sex scenes are seen as bringing the country into disrepute, saying: “I don’t like to attack other stars, I don’t like talking about anyone but myself.”
Sanaa didn’t say whether she preferred Egypt to Tunisia, but stated that “it was a great moment to succeed in my home country, but success in Egypt is special as it is the Arab Hollywood.”
The acterss signed off by stating her ambition to be an international star, and wishing a happy Ramadan to the whole Arab and Islamic world.
