Laila Ezz Al-Arab
After featuring in numerous episodes of the sitcom “Elbab fil Bab” where she played Caroline Khalil’s mother, Sony Pictures Television Arabia has chosen actress Laila Ezz Al-Arab for another new
comedy series.
“Lesa Badry” will also feature acclaimed stars such as Dalal Abdel-Aziz, Inam Salosah, Mahmoud El-Haddeny, Ali Hassanein with debut actors Mohammed El Saadani and Mariam El Sokary. The sitcom is directed by Ahmed Samir Farag and Taghreed El-Asfoury.
Laila plays the character of Safi, who refuses to act her age and considers herself still young, wearing youthful clothes and being active on Facebook and Twitter. "My character's only wish is to get back a villa that used to belong to her grandfather Khazindar Pasha, that was converted into a home for the elderly. She tries to buy it more than once from its new owner, Tahany [played by Dalal Abdel-Aziz] but she couldn’t because Tahani insists on humiliating her, so she decides to do whatever it takes," she said.
This is not the first time the star has featured in comedy -- her role as Ahmed Mekki’s mother in “El Keber Awy” was widely appreciated, along with her role as Ahmed Helmy’s mother in the movie “1000 Mabrouk”.
"I read the 'Lesa Badry' script and laughed so much...my character is very close to my actual personality, in her way of talking and how she deals with people. For that reason Sony and the two directors thought I would be suitable for that role. Also, the actors I'm working with add a lot to the show, and I feel really happy about the atmosphere of friendship between the crew and how we all co-operate together," said Laila.
The production company said: “We didn’t hesitate in choosing Laila Ezz Al-Arab to perform Safi’s role from the beginning, we noticed her energy while shooting and her constant desire to be playful which really fit the role we gave her."
'Lesa Badry' is about an ambitious widow Tahany who decides to convert her villa into a house for the elderly, in which four people live. The tenants are different in terms of their cultural background and characters, they only share a belief to enjoy their remaining years. There are two young people who serve them in the home.
The show is considered a one-of-a-kind production, and is Sony Arabia's first series that is not adapted from a US television series.
