Egyptian actress Nelly Karim
Egyptian actress Nelly Karim has described working in Zaat (Self) as "an enjoyable experience," adding that the drama has
developed her career.
In an exclusive interview with Arab Today, the Egyptian star said that Zaat was an adaptation of a great novel, and went hand-in-hand with Sonallah Ibrahim's writing.
She praised Kamla Abu Zekry is "one of the best directors" in Egypt, and said it was a joy to work with a star-studded cast including Bassem Samra, Entsar and Hany Adel.
Commenting on the difficulty of competing for television slots during Ramadan, Karim said that she was confident Zaat would be commissioned due to its powerful storyline.
"Success comes with hard work. We did our best during the shooting. We didn't even have any breaks," she said.
"I hope success to all my co-workers who did really well," she continued.
Turning to the political situation in Egypt, Karim expressed sorrow at the violence and loss of life following the ouster of President Mohammed Morsi.
The actress said she was happy with the Islamist president's removal, describing Muslim Brotherhood rule as "tough" for Egyptians because " they failed to solve our problems."
She urged all political groups in Egypt to cooperate and work in the national interest.
