Egypt’s renowned artist, Ahmed Ramzy
Cairo – Khaled Ali
Egypt’s renowned artist, Ahmed Ramzy, has passed away leaving his fans in Egypt and Arab nations shocked. Ramzy had left behind a huge art legacy which will always be remembered for generations to come.
In his last years, Ramzy did not suffer any health problems, making his death a traumatising surprise.
Ramzy was born in 1930 to an Egyptian father and Scottish mother. He studied in Orman schools after which he was transferred to Victoria College. He spent three years in medical school, and then decided to drop it to join the faculty of commerce. He decided to leave a while after as he lost interest in the field.
Cinema and acting continuously haunted Ramzy and became his obsession yet his entry into the world of cinema was by chance. Friends with the international actor Omar Sharif, Ramzy’s entrance into this filed was inevitable.
The Arab Screen Lady, Egyptian actress Faten Hamama, was one of the most important people in Ramzy’s professional life. They starred together in many movies like “Al Qalb Laho Ahkam” (Heart has provisions) and “Seraa fe al Minaa” (Struggle in the Port). When the great actress decided in 2001 to return to the TV drama, she chose her old friend to star with her in a role that had a great success by the testimony of the fans and critics.
Ramzy was one of the actors who didn’t care about the quantity but instead he was interested in the content and quality of the work. He had minor roles in many films like “Mozakerat Telmiza” (A Student’s Diary) with Shadia, Amaal Farid and Nadia Lotfi, “Al Nathara al Sawdaa” (The Black Glasses) with Nadia Lotfi and “Tamr Henna” with Naima Akef and Roshdy Abaza. He last worked with the late Farid Shaki in the film “Al Abtal” (The Heroes).
In his last years, Ramzy decided to leave his apartment in Zamalek and move to his Chalet in the North Coast. It seems that his love for the place and his neighbours made him want to be buried there.
Leaving behind a one of a kind legacy, Ahmed Ramzy truly is a great loss for the world of art.
