Alexander Wang 'Wallie' bag with a Samsung Galaxy Note II smartphone
The New York City based fashion designer worked with the South Korean technology firm on a special new lambskin bag which used the power of the crowd to source the designs.
Alexander Wang channeled the 'collective inspiration' of a select group of Samsung smartphone users for his latest collection. Called the Wallie, the gym sac has a drawstring closure, reinforced leather corners, and a black and gray print on the lambskin finish.
The bag's abstract print was produced by Wang by combining different images (photos, doodles, patterns) created using Samsung's Galaxy Note II smartphones by a group of his close friends, stylists, photographers, and others.
"The abstract print really captures the energy of New York City," the designer explained. "This collaboration is a great example of how technology and style can come together in an unexpected but really meaningful way."
The bag is available in select locations from this month, and proceeds from the sale of the $550 bag will go towards the Art Start charity, which funds art programs for children and young people.
Wang isn't the only fashionista experimenting with crowdsourcing designs. Miami based start-up Vividly offers a platform for artists to apply their designs to a range of silk tops and scarves.
