Post delivery depression usually occurs in the first 2 months of giving birth
Casablanca – Nehad Affan?
Moroccan specialist in mental health, Dr Mohsen Bin Yashu, discusses ?natural post delivery depression, citing that it occurs usually in the first two months after giving birth.
Dr Yashu affirms that the condition predominantly occurs due to a lack of sleep, and in some extreme cases, new mothers may attempt to hurt themselves or their babies.
"Post delivery depression can cause extreme anxiety" Dr Yashu adds, "This might develop into emotions like being afraid of staying alone with the baby or being afraid of hurting the baby. Some mothers imagine their babies as something strange which they cannot understand."
"Symptoms ?differ from one woman to another" the medic continues, "But can include fatigue, exhaustion, losing hope and feeling ?helpless, in addition to changes in appetite, tension, difficulty in concentrating, inability to take ?decisions and panic attacks."
Dr Bin Yehu concludes by saying: “It could be difficult to determine when to seek medical help, ?especially if the mother is facing a moderate depression case. Generally it is mild, but in some cases, the ?mother’s moral conditions may worsen and increase following two months after delivery. If this occurs, then she should visit a doctor promptly."
