Poor water sanitation leads to cholera outbreak in Afhanistan
A cholera outbreak has infected 1,400 people in northeastern Afghanistan, killing at least one person, health officials said. Noor Khawari, head of Afghanistan's public health
department, said another 25 people are in critical condition in Bakhshan province. Khawari said the lack of clean water was to blame for the outbreak, Khaama Press reported Monday.
Officials said government mobile health care teams in addition to the non-governmental organizations UNICEF, the World Health Organization and Merlin have been dispatched to the region to help provide care to those infected and contain the outbreak.
