6 Flags theme park will build first Middle Eastern outpost in Dubai by 2017
The world’s largest regional theme park company has announced plans to build a Six Flags-branded park in Dubai -- its first in the Middle East. Scheduled to open in 2017, the park will join other theme parks at Jebel Ali, in partnership with real
estate development firm Meraas.
Jebel Ali is a beach resort destination in Dubai and is the site of Motion Gate, a movie-based theme park; Bollywood-themed area; and a Legoland.
Details on the new Six Flags project are sparse, but as with the company’s 18 existing parks in Canada, the US and Mexico, it will likely feature themed rides, roller coasters and water parks.
According to Theme Park Insider, it’s not the first time Six Flags Entertainment Corporation has tried to open a Middle Eastern outpost.
After plans were announced to open a park in Qatar and Dubai in 2008, both projects were scuttled by the global financial meltdown.
Meanwhile, once the Jebel Ali-based Six Flags park opens, it will be competing against another major upcoming development, the IMG Worlds of Adventure in the City of Arabia, which will include Marvel and Cartoon Network-themed pavilions.
