Abu Dhabi International Airport
The best airport marketing team in Asia is in Abu Dhabi, according to a panel of aviation experts. Abu Dhabi International Airport won the prized accolade at the annual ‘Routes Asia Marketing Awards' held in Kuching, Malaysia
.
The UAE's capital city airport also won the top marketing award for the best airport in the continent that handles between four and 20 million passengers a year.
The awards were presented at a gala celebration hosted by the Tourism Minister for Sarawak and attended by more than 700 aviation industry professionals.
Abu Dhabi will now represent Asia in the ‘World Routes Marketing Awards' to be held in September in Chicago to determine the best global airport.
Ali Majed Al Mansoori, Chairman of Abu Dhabi Airports, said : "It is a great honour to receive the Routes Marketing award for Asia. This accolade only adds to the growing significance of Abu Dhabi International Airport (ADIA) as a leading transportation hub in the Asian region. The award is a result of the commitment of our airport team to support our airline partners and to attract new ones, to provide our passengers with highest levels of services. It also motivates us to develop and improve the airport to increase airlines and routes out of Abu Dhabi and to the world.”
Judges from throughout Asia who work in airline route network planning departments voted Abu Dhabi International Airport ahead of airports in Christchurch, New Zealand, Bangalore in India, Nanning Wuxu in China and Sultan Hasanddin in Indonesia.
Abu Dhabi International Airport handled 16.5 million passengers in 2013, a 12.4 per cent increase on 2012. Home-based carrier Etihad Airways started new services during the year from Abu Dhabi to Washington DC, Amsterdam, Sao Palo, Ho Chi Minh, Belgrade and Sana'a.
Katie Bland, Director Routes, added: "In the past 12 months Abu Dhabi has achieved some great results. The airport recorded double digit growth for the fourth year in a row, at 12 per cent, in 2013 and welcomed six new carriers with 40 additional weekly flights operated by foreign airlines.”
The annual routes awards are highly regarded as the most prestigious awards in the industry as they are voted for and judged by the airline network planning community. They provide the airline community with the chance to have their say as to which airport or tourism authority they think provides the best overall marketing services to them whether this relates to their particular relationship, effective results, provision of data and information or innovative techniques to establish new or maintain and develop existing routes.
