As part of the recent updates to Google Maps, users in the US will now be able to make restaurant reservations directly on the app, while commuters will be able to compare pickup times and fares with Uber to alternative methods of transportation like walking and public transit.
Over the next few days, users will notice a new look for Google Maps that will include 3D-esque layouts which reveal the general outline of large buildings and complexes, brighter colors, and an updated design.
Instead of switching from one app to another, users in the US will also be able to make a last-minute restaurant reservation directly on Google Maps for restaurants listed on OpenTable.
Likewise, Uber riders who’ve installed the app on their mobile device will now be able to weigh their options and compare pick-up times with walking and transit times from Google Maps.
Users can jump into the Uber app directly from the Google Maps app to book a ride.
Facebook also collaborated with online reservation site OpenTable last year to develop a mobile feature that allows users in the US to book a table directly on the restaurant's Facebook Page without having to open a new app or web page.
