Dubai's Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has scooped the Global Road Achievement Award for Road Safety 2014 for a submission entitled 'Children Road Safety is a Shared Responsibility' in an international function held during the first IRF Asia Regional Congress and Exhibition held in Indonesia.
Th head of International Road Federation (IRF) presented CEO of RTA Traffic and Road Agency, Maitha bin Udai, with the present in a ceremony in the presence of representatives of various international delegates taking part in the Congress.
Bin Udai commented, "Since its inception, RTA has been attaching paramount importance to traffic safety in general and child's traffic safety in particular, which is parcel of its comprehensive safety policy aimed at curbing road fatalities and improving road safety level to bring it at par with the best international levels in keeping with its vision of providing safe and smooth transport for all." RTA, she added, is making determined efforts to cope with challenges of safety on the roads and streets of the emirate of Dubai. Such challenges are saddled with plenty of issues including pedestrian safety which will not be achieved by simply constructing bridges or designating pedestrian crossings, but would rather require further encouragement and convincing of road users, especially pedestrians accompanied by children, added Bin Udai added.
