Waldorf Astoria Jerusalem
This week in luxury and notable hotel openings, we look inside the new WaldorfAstoria Jerusalem, a restoration project that brought a historical landmark out of a79-year hibernation with features like a retractable glass ceiling
, marble floors anda lofty atrium promenade.Located within walking distance of the walled Old City and the Jaffa Gate, the latest Waldorf hotel is billed as the only internationally branded luxury hotel in the city and restores what was previously the site of the former Palace Hotel, which checked in its last guest in 1935.With 226 guest rooms and suites spread over 10 floors, the hotel design blends Greco-Roman, Gothic and Ottoman architecture, while preserving the 80-year-old Ottoman facade.Dining choices at the hotel include a French brasserie and gourmet Italian restaurant. Next year, the property will open two indoor lap pools, two gyms, a boutique spa, and two wet and dry saunas.
