Violence in Tahrir square causes travel cancellations in Luxor
The tourism sector in Luxor has been hit by the recent wave of violence in Egypt. Some travel agencies have reported many trip cancellations as far as South America. Some English and Danish airlines have also seen flights to Cairo
being cancelled at the lat minute.
“This is sending a negative message to the world: that Egypt is chaotic and instable,” said Tharwat Agamy, who heads the Luxor tourism agency.
Agamy said: "Workers in the tourism field were happy when the travel warning on Egypt was lifted, but the latest developments caused a 22 percent decrease in the country's tourism rate in the last weeks.”
