Flooring can totally revamp your cooking space Indianapolis – Arab Today Give your kitchen a bit of love and attention this summer and it’ll keep you in good spirits when the autumn gloom sets in .
The website KitchenRemodel101.com has released a guide to choosing one of the most important components of any new kitchen – the floor.
The kitchen specialists started by asking Jon Knight of Emmons & Associates flooring insulation specialists for his tips.
Knight explained that making a choice for the proper flooring in a kitchen requires some careful forethought and planning on the part of the homeowner, as there is a wide variety of choices to consider.
First, remember what to avoid. Carpet is not a recommended option due to its tendency to absorb and hold moisture. Also, it is one of the hardest floor types to keep clean. It will show traffic more and cleaning up those every day spills will become a frustrating chore.
If you’re going for a wood floor, don’t forget that engineered hardwood flooring performs better than laminate, being sturdier and more water resistant. However, engineered wood flooring is generally more expensive to buy and have installed. Another way to achieve the ‘wood look’ is to select the newest trend of porcelain tiles which combine the appearance of wood and the durability of tile.
Being very durable, tiles are also a long-term beauty option. There are several different types available, ranging from affordable ceramic to highly expensive and rare natural stone. The most important factor to keep in mind is that natural stone, such as travertine, requires a stone sealer to help reduce the ability of water/moisture to penetrate. Porcelain tile does not allow penetration of moisture and is a material many tile manufacturers use to simulate the look and feel of natural stone materials, which generally cost more.
An inexpensive choice in flooring for the kitchen is vinyl tile or sheet vinyl flooring. However, vinyl tile squares have seams that moisture can penetrate. Sheet vinyl is generally seamless or has a minimal number of seams and therefore does a better long term job.
If you’ve chosen wood or laminate flooring, matching or accent colors that compliment kitchen cabinets are a wise choice. There are many types of wood on the market but oak, bamboo, hickory, maple, and walnut are among the most popular. A hand-scraped finish is one idea for high traffic areas, because it’s more forgiving of wear marks.
Finally, it’s important to do your research and make careful considerations before committing to a material contractor or contractor for installation. KitchenRemodel101.com recommends kitchen designer DirectBuy of Indianapolis, USA.
