Bugatti 16 C Galibier Concept
When production of the Bugatti Veyron hypercar finally ceases in 2015, it's not going to be replaced by a hyper luxury sedan, nor by an even faster version of the current model.Back in 2009, the Volkswagen-owned company took the wraps
off the Galibier concept -- a car devised to rocket a driver and three passengers along the road in obscene levels of comfort but, according to Bugatti's president, Dr Wolfgang Schreiber, putting the car into production would ultimately dilute the brand.
"We have talked many, many times about the Galibier, but this car will not come because [...] it would confuse our customers. With the Veyron, we placed Bugatti on top of all super-sportscar brands in the whole world. Everyone knows that Bugatti is the ultimate super sportscar. It's easier for current owners, and others who are interested, to understand if we do something similar to the Veyron [next]. And that is what we will do. There will not be a four-door Bugatti," he said in an interview with Top Gear.
Nor will the company be tempted to give the outgoing Veyron a last hurrah. There are no plans to make a ‘super' version of the car. "We will not produce a ‘SuperVeyron' or Veyron Plus, definitely," said Dr Schreiber. "There will be no more power. 1200PS is enough for the chapter of Veyron and its derivatives."
Instead, expect to see a brand new hypercar that once again redefines performance figures set by the Veyron and don't be surprised if the next Bugatti's powertrain features an electric motor as part of the performance mix.
Schreiber claims that his engineers are already working on it but would not be drawn on when to expect the new car to debut.
