The Lamborghini Aventador LP700-4. When the Australian International Motor Show kicks off on Friday July 1 at the Melbourne Exhibition Centre, all eyes will be drawn to one of the world's most powerful and visually arresting supercars, the Lamborghini Aventador LP700-4.
AIMS event director, Russ Tyrie, was thrilled at the news that the eye-catching Lambo will be making its first Aussie appearance at the Melbourne show, claiming the cutting-edge Italian was perfect motor show fodder.
"There is no greater drawcard for a motor show than a spectacular, brand new, never-seen-in-Australia super sports car," Tyrie said.
"To have such an important and impressive supercar unveiled locally so soon after its global unveiling is very exciting for the Australian International Motor Show."
As is the case with all Lamborginis, the Aventador was named after a prized Spanish Bull, and finds motive force via a thumping 515kW/690Nm V12.
Successor to the legendary Lamborghini Murcielago, the Aventador is a real fire-breather, as you can read about in our hands-on road test of the prototype Aventador. Destined to be one of the stars of the 2011 Australian International Motor Show, its sharp, angular design, vertically opening doors and low slung stance all contribute to the wow factor.
Lamborghini has seen to it that its next generation flagship supercar is one of the fastest on the planet, thanks to a more powerful engine and a reduction in overall weight. Tipping the scales at 1575kg, the Aventador LP700-4 also adopts a disturbingly expensive carbon fibre monocoque chassis.
The Italian exotic will rocket from zero to 100km/h in a claimed 2.9 seconds, and plenty of wind-tunnel work has ensured the aerodynamics are good enough to see the car punch through the air all the way to 350km/h.
And it doesn't mind wet roads either, with torque from the V12 engine reaching all four wheels via an advanced all-wheel drive setup.
Lamborghini Melbourne's managing director, Andrew Smith, drove the car recently on the Vallelunga circuit near Rome, and was also upbeat about its local arrival: "The Aventador looks amazing in photographs, but this is nothing to seeing it in person. I'm sure the visitors to the Australian International Motor Show are going to love it."
Mark it in your diary - the 2011 Australian International Motor Show will take place at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre from July 1-10.
