The Speedback GT
David Brown Automotive has unveiled its first car, a modern V8 sports coupé that apes the lines of the 1963 classic Aston Martin. Like its automotive muse, the DB5, this car has been painstakingly handcrafted, however, underneath its
swooping lines and inside the cabin, this car is bang up to date.
And that's because it started out life as a modern Jaguar XK and therefore should offer a perfect balance of handling performance and reliability, while also offering incredible levels of exclusivity. This is not going to be a mass-produced car.
David Brown said: "The launch of Speedback is the realization of a dream for me, and is the result of skilful and dedicated work by a team of highly talented designers, engineers and craftsmen. I am delighted at the reaction of the media, our suppliers, potential customers and friends, and I look forward to presenting the car to the public in Monaco."
The Speedback's first official appearance will be at the Top Marques motor show in Monaco in April, but the company couldn't resist giving the motoring press a sneak peek of the car before then and hosted a special event in London on Thursday night, where the car was unveiled for the first time.
It has taken the company 18 months to bring the car to fruition. Engineered and handbuilt in the UK, the Speedback is a showcase of both British craftsmanship and materials.
"This car will appeal to anybody who desires a truly individual sports car, which can boast a fine British pedigree and which will only be produced in limited numbers, thus ensuring the kind of exclusivity associated with Britain's once proud heritage of traditional, high-quality, automotive coach-building," said Brown.
As standard, the Speedback GT will come with Jaguar's 500PS supercharged V8 under the hood, but this being a very specialist car, each client will be able to customize the tuning as well as the car's trim and interior fittings.
