The Speaker of Arab Parliament, Ahmed bin Mohammed Al Jarwan, has underlined that the Arab Parliament backs the interests of the great people of Yemen and their legitimacy attained through dialogue and the GCC Initiative.
He called on the people of Yemen to give priority to the national interest, warning about consequences of drifting toward foreign schemes aimed at destabilising the security and stability of Yemen.
In a statement yesterday in reaction to the events in Yemen, Al Jarwan said, "Yemen's security is the security of the Arab world." He expressed the concern of the Arab Parliament "about deteriorating political and security situation in the Republic of Yemen, which threatens its unity, stability and territorial integrity." He noted that the Arab Parliament is interested in the future of the people of Yemen and their national unity, calling on Houthis not to drag the country back into fighting and conflict. He called for adopting the language of dialogue.
Al Jarwan stressed that the Arab Parliament rejects the use of force or dictating any terms and agreements at gun point and under threat, calling on the free people of Yemen to unite their ranks and deny any opportunity to the enemies of the Arab world and those serving the regional interest, to achieve their destructive plans.
He added that the Arab Parliament calls for the implementation of the remaining clauses of the GCC initiative, its executive mechanism and relevant UN Security Council resolutions. Al Jarwan reiterated that the GCC initiative is the only logical way out to end the crisis and divisions in Yemen.
