Speaker of Arab Parliament Ahmed Mohammed al Jarwan
Amman - Arab Today

Speaker of Arab Parliament Ahmed Mohammed al Jarwan Speaker of Arab Parliament, Ahmed Mohammed Al Jarwan, has urged Arabs to speed up efforts to close ranks and unite in order to be able to counter the crises, security risks and economic challenges brought about in the Arab region. "Anyone with a discerning mind understands that solidarity and unity is the radical solution to our present and future challenges. Together we Arabs can dismiss our differences and join our hands in order to achieve our aspirations for security and stability as well as for an overall and sustainable economic renaissance," said Al Jarwan in his opening remarks at the opening of the 2nd session of the 2nd ordinary second annual meeting 2013 - 2014 of the first legislative chapter of the Arab Parliament in Amman, Jordan.
The speaker of the pan-Arab parliamentary body re-affirmed that Palestine continues to be the central issue of Arabs.
He also called on the governments of Arab and other countries and human rights organisations to provide assistance to the Syrian people who suffer worsening humanitarian conditions and a harsh winter, in refugee camps in particular.
Re-affirming the Arab Parliament's support to the right of the Syrian people to self-determination, he urged all Syrians to unite and emphasised the need to put an end to violence, destruction and bloodshed in order to create suitable circumstances for a political solution to the Syrian crisis.
Al Jarwan also strongly condemned the terrorist acts against the people of Iraq and the people of Yemen.
Noting that the rapprochement between Iran and the West requires making preparations for the next stage and what he hoped could be the start of joint action in the interest of the peoples of the region," Al Jarwan urged Iran to consolidate confidence building and enhance cooperation with Arab states, and Gulf states in particular, in order to solve all pending issues.
The Speaker of Arab Parliament called on Iran to end its occupation of the three UAE islands of Abu Musa and the Lesser and Greater Tunbs.
