UAE Foreign Minister H.H. Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, on Thursday, led the UAE delegation to the meeting of the Committee of the Arab Peace Initiative, held at the Arab League's Secretariat General, in the Egyptian capital, Cairo.
The UAE delegation comprised Mohammed bin Nakhira Al Dhaheri, UAE Ambassador to Egypt and Permanent Representative at the Arab League, Ahmed Abdul Rahman Al Jarman, Assistant Foreign Minister for Political Affairs, and Abdul Rahman Al Awadi, Assistant Foreign Minister for Legal Affairs.
The meeting came ahead of the extraordinary meeting of the foreign ministers.
Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas updated the committee on the current developments regarding the Palestinian Cause, emphasising on efforts being made in the UN Security Council to set a deadline to end the Israeli occupation of the Palestinian territories. He also informed the meeting about the results of his contacts and consultations concerning accession of Palestine to a number of international conventions and organisations, including the International Criminal Court.
The meeting also discussed the kinds of support for the Palestinian Cause following the failure of the UN Security Council to vote in favour of a draft resolution to end Israeli occupation of Palestinian territories by late 2017.
Earlier, the Arab foreign minister held a closed door meeting with Arab League Secretary-General Nabil Al Araby to coordinate stances towards the Palestinian Cause.
The Arab Foreign ministers' meeting is of paramount importance as it will discuss measures the ministers will take to provide political, financial and media support for the Palestinian Cause. The meeting will focus on the financial network which will provide a monthly cushion of US$ 100 million to the Palestinian Authority to enable it confront Israeli threats and measures to seize Palestinian tax money.
