Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan and Hoshyar Zebari during ceremony HH Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, UAE Foreign Minister, and Iraqi Foreign Minister, Hoshyar Zebari, in a ceremony inaugurated the new building of the Iraqi Embassy in the Embassies District, Abu Dhabi. In the ceremomy, the national anthems of UAE and Iraq were played and H.H. Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed and Minister Zebari hoisted the Flag of Iraq at the new building and revealed a commemorative plaque to mark the event.
In his remarks at the ceremomy, H.H. Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed bin Zayed said taking part in the opening of the new Iraqi Embassy in UAE indicates the strength of the fraternal bilateral relations between the two countries.
"Iraq currently is going through a lot of problems and turbulence, but based on the solidarity between Iraqis, Iraq's neighbours and the international community, we can provide support and counsel towards a more beautiful future for Iraq and Iraqis," said H.H. Sheikh Abdullah.
H.H Sheikh Abdullah described his first visit to Baghdad after Iraq changed as "emotionally touching." On his part, Iraq's Foreign Minister, Hoshyar Zebari, described the contribution of Iraqis who live and work in UAE to the building, development and progress of UAE as a source of pride for all Iraqis.
"Relations between Iraq and UAE are ancient and have become exemplary after the change as U.A.E, and other Arab states, stood with the new Iraq during very difficult and critical times," Minister Zebari said noting that Iraq is still in transition to a democratic regime that is laying the foundations for a dignified and free life for all Iraqis.
The Iraqi foreign minister noted that the increasing of the number of flights between Iraq and UAE, day-to-day contacts and the growth of foreign investments in Iraq, including those by UAE companies, are all signs of the good relationship between the two countries which is set to see more activities and programmes.
Mr. Zebari also greeted President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the people and government of UAE on the occasion of 42nd National Day, and on winning the bid to host the world EXPO 2020 in Dubai. He described the win as a gain for all Arab countries.
