Sixty-two private press institutions in Nouakchott will benefit from this first instalment The committee assigned to distribute the independent Press Fund transferred 40 million Ouguiya to the independent Press Fund in Mauritania. Sixty-two private press institutions in Nouakchott will benefit from this first instalment, which will be used to pay the salaries of the journalists and encourage the institutions to make internal arrangements.The committee, which has strict criteria for determining which institutions qualify, is planing to launch an award to encourage creativity and diversity within the press field.An additional 6 million Ouguiya was also transferred to press institutions which qualify and 42 million was transferred to the national print house for the benefit of newspapers which qualified for the subsidy.
The next instalment of 50 million ouguiya is expected to go towards supportingnewspapers, websites and the media groups for their preparations and equipment.
The committee includes a representative of the supreme authority of press and audio visuals, a representative of the ministry of finance, representatives of the ministry of communications and three private journalists.
