Abu Dhabi - Arab Today

The National Media Council, NMC, and The Sharjah Commerce and Tourism Development Authority, SCTDA, the prime governmental entity driving the growth of the emirate's tourism and commerce sector, have signed a Memorandum of Understanding, MoU, to strengthen the UAE's tourism promotion initiatives globally.
The MoU was signed by Ibrahim Al Abed, Director-General of the National Media Council, and Khalid Jasim Al Midfa, Director-General of SCTDA.
A number of senior officials from the two sides attended the signing ceremony. The Memorandum will be for a period of two years starting from the date of signing and shall be automatically renewed for a similar period as per the desire of the two parties.
Speaking on the occasion, Ibrahim Al Abed said that the signing of the Memorandum comes within the framework of the attention of H.H. Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Foreign Minister and Chairman of National Media Council, for the need to strengthen the activities and events held in different emirates, in addition to activating cooperation between WAM, the Emirates News Agency, and the SCTDA.
He stressed that the Emirate of Sharjah is considered a beacon of cultural activity and an important centre because of its cultural activities, especially the Sharjah International Book Fair, which is one of the most important cultural tourism factors, in addition to 21 museums.
Khalid Jasim Al Midfa, Director-General of SCTDA, said the MoU is a milestone that will accelerate joint efforts to establish the UAE as one of the world's best destinations. "The new agreement builds on our ongoing partnership with NMC to share best practices and institutional experience across all key business sectors, with a special focus on tourism. NMC's integrated efforts to create a distinct identity for the UAE's media sector serves as a strong complement to our tourism and commerce promotion initiatives." Al Midfa said that the MoU also underlines SCTDA's commitment to strengthening cooperation with government agencies in Sharjah and the UAE. "Promoting mutual cooperation and communication with other governmental entities play a significant role in driving organisational excellence, and in turn furthering our national interest." Al Midfa said that NMC's initiatives have contributed to highlighting the UAE's unique developmental narrative and strategic growth goals globally. "This, in turn, has boosted not only foreign investment and trade flows but also defined the UAE as a global hub for business and tourism. Through our partnership, we will further contribute to solidifying our nation's reputation internationally." SCTDA and the NMC have also been working together to uphold Intellectual Property Rights, IPR, particularly for publications by the Authority commemorating the Sharjah Light Festival and the Sharjah Water Festival.
Last year, a delegation from the NMC visited SCTDA's offices in Sharjah and met senior management with regard to strengthening cooperation and coordination between the two entities. The two sides agreed to step up efforts to achieving national goals and priorities, and to promote the UAE as one of the world's best destinations.
