Moroccan TV
During union discussion sessions Moroccan media personnel have stated their main aim is to improve the quality of news content on public channels after it was described
as weak and not professionally appropriate.
Moroccan viewers criticizing news quality in their national TV channels are asking the question: what is the reason behind weakness and typical reflected on Moroccan news channels? Arabtoday transferred the question to news officials and received the following the answers:
Sameera Sitaal: our weapon is freedom and we are getting closer
Sameera Sital is the news manager on the Moroccan second channel (Douziem). Sameera feels that it's not logical to describe the second channel to be pitiful. She believe that this judgment requires physical evidence to prove it related to measuring viewing rates and reactions to news as revealed monthly by MarocMetrie SA. according to Sital, the channel views news as its first priority and its viewership didn’t witness any decrease or weakness, she added "since more than 2 years ago the news crew on the main channel in the news department has concentrated on being close to the event. Press crews are permanently making reports with facts at the time of the event".
“we are working with qualified journalists using freedom to try and do our best according to our physical and human abilities, so no one can blame us.
Fatema el-Barody: our national news is leading; we are not looking for international competition.
Fatema el-Barody is the news director of channel one. Fatema states "I don’t think there is a retreating or weakness in our news network as the nature of the field we are working in is to scoop local events with the major part specialized for national news and international which forms 10% of total news presented excluding some special cases such as Gaza news which we are tackling as a national issue not an international one.
We are working in all news departments in the national company not looking for any news scoop but looking for trusted news and processing it in a professional way" she added "we are working in channel 1 as local and national observers, we are different to others in our field, no other channel can compete with us whatever its level of professionalism. Even al-Jazeera Morocco can’t compete with us. However this doesn’t mean we are totally satisfied with our work, we have internal discussions about further developing our news production.
Othman Nagary: We are superior at the Moroccan level
Othman Nagary is responsible for the Moroccan "Median TV" news department. Othman said that "news aired on this channel is witnessing developments form and the content submitted getting more accurate. Even after the channel owners transferred it from a specialized news channel to a general one in 2010, it was able to keep its news line up transferring Moroccan news to the world, giving a Moroccan view on international issues to keep interactivity between Arabs, the west and the rest of the world playing an intermediate role" Nagary added "our news time achieved 1% viewing rates which is good in the contect that no news channel in the world achieves more than 5%. We consider ourselves leaders in the Arab west, but we are not competing with al-Arabia and al-Jazeera simply because we don’t have their budget, or human and physical resources".
