Abu Dhabi University
Show-casing a wide variety of programmes offered by its different colleges during NAJAH Education, Training and Careers Exhibition 2013, Abu Dhabi University announced yesterday several new programmes and initiatives
that will be launched throughout the academic year as part of the university's comprehensive plan to celebrate its 10th anniversary.
The new programmes include the Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering, Master of Project Management in collaboration with Purdue University, and the Master of Science in Civil Engineering with concentrations in Structural Engineering, Construction Engineering Management or General Civil Engineering. ADU's staff and faculty representatives from the different colleges also introduced exhibition visitors to the 25 Bachelor programmes and 9 Master's degrees already offered at the university.
Commenting on the importance of participating in NAJAH 2013, Dr. Nabil Ibrahim, Chancellor of Abu Dhabi University, explained that the university always looks forward to the annual exhibition as it serves as a platform of communication with prospective students and their parents. "The annual exhibition gives them an opportunity to be introduced to the diverse range of programmes offered on both of the university's campuses, which have all been designed to meet the needs of human resources for the regional labour market, and allowed us to explore further avenues of cooperation with other higher education institutions and various business sectors throughout the U.A.E..
"Moreover, this year NAJAH 2013 is of special significance to ADU as it coincides with the launch of our celebrations for the university's 10th anniversary. Since our celebrations focus on giving back to the community that has supported us throughout this past decade, the exhibition allows us to share with visitors the different educational, cultural, social, and charitable initiatives that are part of our year-long festivities".
Referring to the new programmes available, Dr. Ibrahim continued, "The B.Sc. in Chemical Engineering was developed in response to the high demand for chemical engineers in the U.A.E. from the growing petrochemical, polymer, pharmaceutical, and food industries in the country, combined with the expansion in water desalination projects in the region.
"The programme was designed according to the standards of the Accreditation Board for Engineering Technology (ABET) and will prepare students for job opportunities in the gas, petrochemicals and petroleum industry, water desalination, food and drinking industry, composite materials and polymers industry, power generation industry, pharmaceutical industry, cosmetic industry, and many others.
"The Master of Project Management is being offered through our Engineering College in collaboration with the College of Business Administration and Purdue University, West Lafayette in the U.S.. It prepares students to take the Project Management Professional Certification and enables them to study the latest project management issues and gain skills in integration, scope management, contract management, procurement management and the ethical and legal aspects of the business.
"The Master of Science in Civil Engineering with its different concentrations prepares students to tackle engineering problems related to construction, design, operation and management of civil engineering systems," concluded Dr. Ibrahim.
