eLearning is a type of teaching and learning empowered by electronic technology
Abu Dhabi - Arab Today

eLearning is a type of teaching and learning empowered by electronic technology As part of the Tamkeen Empowering Educators programme to enhance the quality of educational outcomes achieved by students, 208 ICT teachers in Abu Dhabi, Al Ain, and the Western Region received training on how to effectively facilitate eLearning in classrooms.
The term eLearning is known as a type of teaching and learning empowered by electronic technology.
ADEC introduced the Tamkeen Empowering Educators Program to help support the development of qualified and skilled school leaders and teachers who can support ADEC's aim to offer quality education for students.
In addition to receiving training, ICT teachers were provided with support materials to take back to their schools in order to foster a culture of collaboration between ICT teachers and subject area teachers.
Dr. Najla Al Naqbi, the Program Manager for the eCurriculum Division, said that "eLearning is not a subject, it is a way of teaching and learning and so it is the responsibility of all teachers to foster these essential skills, in order to prepare our youth to meet the challenges of the 21st Century." During the first trimester of the 2013/2014 school year, Tamkeen is focused on empowering teachers and school leaders with the knowledge and skills needed to support students in developing and applying necessary 21st Century skills, including: Creativity and Innovation, Critical Thinking and Problem Solving, Communication, and Collaboration. Several important professional development initiatives are in place, in order to address this subject As a result all School Principals, Vice Principals, and Heads of Faculty at the 253 schools served in the Tamkeen program are due to receive training on Teaching and Learning: Leading Learning in the 21st Century. The training focuses on the urgency of preparing students with 21st century skills; fostering 21st century skills, through the creation of tasks that provide a balance of creative, analytical, and practical thinking and alignment between 21st century skills and the ADEC leadership standards.
Special training groups of teachers and aspiring teachers, in the New School Model Sabbatical Program and the Eedad Tawteen initiative also received training on how to utilize iPads to make learning engaging and fun for students.
