The 'Education for Intercultural Citizenship' training
Beirut - Arab Today

The 'Education for Intercultural Citizenship' training Believing in the important role of education in intercultural citizenship, the Anna Lindh Foundation launched its series of trainings on citizenship with a training on “Education for Intercultural Citizenship” that took place in Lebanon under the High Patronage of His Excellency the President of the Republic of Lebanon General Michel Sleiman.
The “Education for Intercultural Citizenship” training was organized by Adyan Foundation as part of the Dawrak Programme of the Anna Lindh Foundation and it took place in the UNESCO palace in Beirut, Lebanon on November 18th, 2013, through the Regional Arab Congress.
The event was inaugurated in the presence of  Minister of information Mr. Walid Daouk representative of presidency, H.E. Amb. Angelina Eichhorst- head of the European delegation in Lebanon, Dr. Zahida Darwich Jabbour- General Secretary of Lebanese National Commission for UNESCO and head of Anna Lindh Foundation Lebanese Network, Prof. Fadi Daou, Chairmanf Adyan Foundation, Mr. Andrue Claret, Executive director of the Anna Lindh Foundation and more than 170 representatives of educational institutions, media associations and civil society organisations plus other diplomats and ambassadors.
Mr. Andrue Claret, Executive director of Anna Lindh Foundation said in his speech: “we are convinced that Dialogue works when it is a dialogue of people sharing social and cultural experiences and aimed at doing together, at becoming real citizens”, he also said: “In Tunisia and Morocco we will have similar training session on those topics in the coming weeks, and in Lebanon beginning in the next year with another training on youth participation”.
Ambassador Angelina Eichhorst- head of the European delegation in Lebanon also emphasised in her speech on the role of Dawrak saying: “Dawrak is an excellent tool in promoting for the importance of dialogue.”
Prof. Fadi Daou, Chairman of Adyan Foundation talked about the role of Adyan in participating in building bridges for citizenship and the importance of implementing such trainings.
After the ceremonies the participants moved to the venue of the training in Notre Dame University to start the training programme, which included 60 Arab educators, trainers and educational policy makers, from Mauritania, Morocco, Tunisia, Algeria, Libya, Egypt, Palestine, Jordan, Lebanon and Syria.
