Sixth edition of Dubai Cares' Walk for Education
Dubai - Arab Today

Dubai Cares yesterday announced the 6th edition of its Walk for Education, the symbolic three kilometre walk that aims to highlight one of the challenges children face in acquiring quality education in developing countries where they have to walk an average of three kilometres every day in order to reach school.
The Walk for Education 2015 will take place on February 6th starting at Dubai Creek Park and moving along the Riyadh Road. Participants have been requested to gather at 8am at Dubai Creek Park, Gate 2, where Dubai Cares will also host a series of post-walk festivities inside the park for children and adults.
Commenting on the need for engaging the local community in the organisation's mission, Tariq Al Gurg, Chief Executive Officer of Dubai Cares, said: "The Walk for Education, one of the main pillars of Dubai Cares' community engagement strategy, is an act of solidarity with those children who literally walk the distance to gain an education. With every step they take, they are taking their families, communities and nation closer to a productive and progressive environment. Through our Walk for Education, we want to contrast the educational amenities we benefit from in the developed world and the depleted resources in many countries in which we have development programs. Facilitating a sound educational system in those countries is what we, as an organisation, strive towards and through our Walk for Education, we are giving the UAE community the opportunity to join us in making powerful strides towards universal quality education.
"For the third consecutive year, we are grateful to Chevron for their continued support as the main sponsor of our Walk for Education. The walk highlights Dubai Cares' holistic approach, mobilises members of the UAE community to become advocates for education in support of Dubai Cares' mandate. In every country we work in, we are faced with a diverse range of challenges, from infrastructural to cultural, which prevent children from receiving quality primary education. However, we also witness an overwhelming enthusiasm amongst children and adults for learning. They understand the power of education to transform lives and nations, to break the cycle of poverty and fuel a productive economy. Through the solidarity and awareness raised from Walk for Education, we are helping those children and adults achieve their aspirations for a better future," stated Al Gurg.
Christopher Bradley, Country Chairman, Chevron UAE, said: "Chevron is delighted once again to be the main sponsor of Dubai Cares Walk for Education. We believe that the combination of sponsorship and generous volunteering continue to make a difference in support of Dubai Cares' efforts around the world." The entry fee for Dubai Cares Walk for Education is Dh30. Residents interested in participating can register online at Dubai Cares' website or on-site on Friday, February 6th, starting 8 am. The walk is free for children under the age of five.
