An Egyptian Engineering student has won the Surrey University's Vice-Chancellor Award for Outstanding Contribution to University Life 2015/16.

Omar Ahmed Obeid, a senior engineering student, is the first Arab and Egyptian national to win the award.

Speaking to MENA, Obeid said the award crowned his four-year efforts that have been going on since he joined the Electrical and Electronic Engineering program at the university in 2012.

He voiced his happiness for winning the president and vice-Chancellor award, adding he is eager to serve his home country.

The Egyptian student won the prize after a heated competition between 20 candidates.
