Giuseppe Moscatello, Director of Maraya Art Centre, an Initiative by Sharjah Investment and Development Authority, Shurooq, participated as a speaker at the prestigious International Meeting of Residences Conference that showcased a range of prominent speakers discussing the subject "Residencies as Learning Environments" held at the Frigoriferi Milanesi in via Piranesi 10, Milan, Italy recently.
Moscatello, discussed his perspective on artist residencies and their importance in education during the meeting alongside a host of prominent academics, art professors, directors and business people, hailing from as far afield as Italy, the Netherlands, Lithuania, Lebanon, Bahrain, Egypt, United Arab Emirates and Azerbaijan.
The International Meeting of the Residences aims to examine residencies as learning environments, discussing how the placements can be developed alongside traditional education to augment the development of artists. It aims to examine the importance of artist residencies and identify their specific function in an attempt to understand their position as new institutions in the industry.
The International Meeting of the Residences is part of the AIR – artinresidence's project, an Italian network of artist residencies.
