Students in the University of Nouakchott
The Mauritanian and Palestinian government signed an agreement on Wednesday, under which Palestinian students are allowed to pursue higher education in the University of Nouakchott, officials say.
The Mauritanian Secretary-General of the Ministry of State for National Discipline, Higher Education and Scientific Research Ahmed Ould Mohamed Abdullah and the Palestinian Ambassador in Nouakchott Adnan Abu Al-Haija signed the agreement. Both sides also agreed to exchange visits between the university professors in Mauritania and Palestine.
Dr. Sidi Ould Mohamed Abdullah, University of Nouakchott President, illustrated that the signing of this agreement embodies the historic ties between the Mauritanians and Palestinians and the strength of relations between both countries, adding that the University of Nouakchott, since its establishment, remained open to Palestinian students who wished to pursue higher studies.
The Palestinian ambassador in Nouakchott described the agreement as a "brick added to the Mauritanian-Palestinian cooperation building", emphasizing that Palestinian students study in Mauritania as citizens and not as foreigners.
The ambassador pointed out that the support of Mauritania to Palestine extended to various scientific fields, where Palestinians persisted to gain knowledge from the Mauritanian cleric.
