The Norilsk Nickel Company (Nornickel) plans to launch a new educational project about the Russian North, the company’s Head of Humanitarian Projects Yulia Kantor said at the international cultural forum on Friday.
"A new program, which Norilsk Nickel will begin, is publishing of books about the North for children, beginning from the pre-school age to teenagers," she told TASS. "One of the projects would be an encyclopedia, devoted to Kaverin’s novel "Two Captains," in which we shall tell about the locations and characters, the writer used, as well as about the aviation, navigation, about traveling."
"That would not be a classical encyclopedia from A to Z, but a book, devoted to big stories, reflected in the novel," she explained.
In 2020, the company will publish a book on the Russian North for small children, she continued. The project will be long-term and will continue after this book is published, she told participants in a roundtable dubbed The North as Text of the Russian Culture.

The roundtable’s discussions focused on how the Arctic’s development was reflected in the Russian culture, in various exhibitions, museum projects and in published materials.
The delegates discussed past experiences. For example, specialist told about how the North’s languages and cultures used to be taught, or about dialogues between official and local cultures in the early and middle 20th century.
