Students from the Revolutionary Socialist Movement
Alexandria – Haitham Mohammed
Three students from the Revolutionary Socialist Movement were attacked by campus security at the Faculty of Engineering at Alexandria University, while screening the “Lying Brotherhood” film on faculty
premises.
The students - Tuqa Mohammed [business student], Mahmoud Abulhadeed [engineering student] and Islam Emad [art student] - were assaulted after being repeatedly harassed from the beginning of the film, in addition to electricity being cut off in the building where the screening was taking place.
Tuqa Mohammed said she was verbally assaulted by security while one guard pushed her as she tried to take a photograph of her colleague, Islam Emad, in the head of security’s office where he had been kept for 15 minutes.
Ms Mohammed reported that “after losing hope of terminating the screening via harassment,” the security official “decided we are not students in the Faculty of Engineering.” She said she told the security guard there was no law against their presence on campus as they were enrolled in the University of Alexandria.
Ms Mohammed added that faculty administration had “mistreated” them, “in addition to confiscating faculty and personal identification and locking us in offices.” This screening of the anti-Muslim Brotherhood film, she reported, was their second, following another at the Faculty of Medicine. “No assaults by security took place,” she said, despite her and her colleague being subjected to “only minor harassment” by members of the student union “because they’re members of the Muslim Brotherhood.”
She said the assaulted students were preparing a memorandum and filing a police report about the incident, which they will present to the chairman of the university.
